LASG SETS UP TECHNICAL COMMITTEE TO REVIEW ALIMOSHO MODEL CITY PLAN
The Lagos State Government has set up a technical committee to review the outdated Alimosho Model City Plan.
The Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Dr. Idris Salako, spoke during the inauguration of the committee in Alausa on Tuesday, noting that the expired plan was one of the foremost development plans prepared in Y2010 with a timeline of ten years that lapsed in Y2020.
Represented by the Director of Technical Services, Tpl. Bola Aliu, the Commissioner said that periodic reviews were necessary for the Operative Development Plans to remain updated, relevant and reliable in meeting the T.H.E.M.E.S Agenda of making Lagos a 21st Century Economy.
Disclosing that the review would deliver a plan valid for the next twenty years, Salako also stated that it would take cognisance of the geographical coverage, geometric population growth and the physical challenges of Alimosho Local Government Area as well as contiguous localities.
“The attention of the Consultants, Messrs Corporate Castles Limited, had been drawn to the physical and environmental issues inherent in the area, including perennial flooding, wetland encroachment, indiscriminate waste disposal and management as well as lack of open spaces for leisure” he stated.
He urged members of the Technical Committee, comprising representatives of different Lagos State Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs), to discharge their responsibilities professionally and provide the necessary information for a successful exercise.
The Technical Committee for the Review of Alimosho Model City Plan is the third to be inaugurated by the State Government following the inauguration of similar groups for the Review of Lekki Comprehensive Master Plan and the Preparation of Ibeju-Lekki Model City Plan earlier in July.
