ROAD CONSTRUCTION: LASG SET TO ESTABLISH RIGHT OF WAY FOR ROADS IN SOMOLU, EPE

… Engages Stakeholders of Braithwaite, Moshalashi Streets, Others

The Lagos State Government has commenced the process of establishing the Right of Way for the ongoing construction of Reverend Braithwaite Street and network of roads in Epe as well as those on Moshalashi Street and environs in Somolu.

Speaking at the meeting held to sensitise stakeholders in Epe and Somolu on Thursday, the Commissioner for PhysicalPlanning and Urban Development, Dr. Idris Salako, said that it is essential to deliver the Right of Way free of encumbrances to facilitate the development of road infrastructure to transform the State.

“It is the responsibility of the Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development to create the enabling environment for all development projects in Lagos State by removing encumbrances at the sites”, he said.

Emphasising the importance of participatory approach to the exercise, Salako stated that the meeting underscored the commitment of the Lagos State Government to citizens’ participation in State-building, adding that it is essential to continue expanding the horizon of acceptability and ownership as means of sustaining public projects.

He assured residents that the government, not being oblivious of challenges that the road rehabilitation projects might pose, had directed timely completion of the projects and mandated relevant agencies to assign compensation to affected property owners.

“Making the timeline realisable is also dependent on the level of cooperation that the contractor and all Government officials working on the project receive from the residents”, he noted.

On the importance of the project, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Works and Infrastructure, Engr. Aramide Adeyoye, gave an assurance that the people of Epe and Somolu would withness improved environment, enhanced transportation and interconnectivity, as well as increased property value, at the end of the infrastructure upgrade.

Honourable Chairman, House Committee on Physical Planning and Urban Development, Mr. Nureni Akinsanya and Mr. Rotimi Olowo, urged the beneficiaries to maintain a friendly disposition towards the project, urging residents to cooperate with the State government for the successful completion of the projects.

The Chairmen of Somolu and Epe Local Governments, Mr. Abdul-Hamed Salawu and Mr. Sura Animashaun, respectively, thanked the Lagos State Government for its focus on their respective Local Government Areas and pledged maximum cooperation of their people.

Other notable personalities at the event include the Special Adviser to the Governor on Urban Development, Mr. Ganiyu Adele Ayuba; Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development, Engr. Abiola Kosegbe; Permanent Secretary, Office of Infrastructure, Engr. Rotimi Thomas; and Special Assistant to the Governor on Works and Infrastructure, Mr. Raheem Owokoniran.
