LAGOS PHYSICAL PLANNING LAW ENFORCEMENT TEAM VISITS ABULE ADO

… Seals 56 Buildings

The Lagos State Government, on Friday, continued its enforcement of Physical Planning Laws in Abule Ado axis of Amuwo Odofin Local Government where it sealed 54 buildings and another two in Festac and Ago Palace Way.

The structures, which were in various stages of construction, were sealed for different infractions of the Physical Planning Laws including construction without Planning Permit, unapproved change of use and other conformity issues.

The Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Dr. Idris Salako, stated that government would not rest on its oars in the bid to make the Lagos built environment organised, orderly and livable.

He said in view of the pervasive nature of the abuse of building codes across the State, the present administration, being a responsible government, would stop at nothing to bring sanity to the sector for the good of society.

“Given the extent of abuse all over the State,  it is by courageously applying the sanctions that we can reverse the ugly trend and encourage the people to do the right thing and save society from needless pain”, he said.

Salako averred that the special enforcement operations, which commenced three weeks ago by the Ministry of Physical Planning and its Agencies as well as the Special Enforcement Team in the Governor’s Office, was supposed to last for two weeks in the first instance, but it is being extended because of the high rate of contraventions of Physical Planning Laws all over the State.

The Commissioner also disclosed that the Lagos State Government, through the Ministry of Physical Planning, has also employed other measures such as sensitisation campaigns and regular stakeholders’ engagements to enlighten the people on the advantages inherent in following due process in building construction while also encouraging voluntary compliance to the regulations.
